AWE Fall Portfolio for Teens

AWE Portfolio is for 6th-8th graders preparing portfolios for art high schools in the fall and for those who want to make art and improve their skills. Classes begin the week of September 11 until Wednesday, December 12. Classes begin at 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. A student can arrive as early as 3:30 pm. There are two sessions. Each session is 6 classes. We will primarily draw and paint. We will focus on technique and eye-hand coordination while building skills within the traditional foundations of art. We will concentrate on figure drawing, still-lifes, reference and imaginative painting and drawing. Some of the work done will specifically prepare for the in-class drawing exam select art high schools require (this is dependent on COVID-19 in-person limitations). AWE Fall Portfolio gives guidance and instruction to each student’s needs and style. Style means a personal approach to making art like knowing who created a painting by looking at their brush stroke and over-all appearance. The goal is to create a cohesive portfolio that is personal, professional and presentation-ready for any of the NYC art high schools.

AWE Fall Portfolio High School is for high school students who are considering having Art as part of their college education or just want the time out of their busy day to be an artist. Classes begin at 4:30 until 6:30 pm. A student can arrive as early as 4:00 pm. There are two sessions. Each session is 6 classes. Work done at AWE Fall Portfolio High School will be about consistency and how to convey visually and/or conceptually what and how to express through image, style and process. Students focus on themes that best represents them. They continue building skills and exploring different approaches to making art. Guidance, mentoring and knowing when to just let an artist create, factor in our approach to teaching high school students in the AWE studio.
